September 27, 2018 Altmans Gallery opens the fall exhibition of one of the greatest masters of the twentieth century, Marc Chagall.
Over the course of a month and a half, more than two dozen works can be seen in the gallery, including color and black and white lithographs of the artist from the gallery’s collection.
The Lovers exhibition at Altmans Gallery runs through November 5th. The cost of admission is 300 rubles.
“For me, only love matters, and I deal only with things that revolve around it,” said Marc Chagall.
One of the main artists of the twentieth century - the great Marc Chagall, met his future wife Bella back in 1909. At that time he was a poor young artist, not recognized and constantly immersed in painting, which he considered a matter of his life. She is the daughter of a famous Vitebsk jeweler. Between them is a social abyss. But Bella immediately saw in him the talent and firmness of mind, she believed in him even then, believed for life.
The feeling that flared up between the young people in the first minutes of the meeting, Chagall will keep in his heart until old age. “As if we knew each other a long time ago and she knows everything about me: my childhood, my current life and what will happen to me; as if she was always watching me, was somewhere nearby, although I saw her for the first time. And I realized: this is my wife, ”the artist will write decades later. He later wrote: "For many years, her love illuminated everything that I did."
July 25, 1915 they got married. Bella became the first wife and main muse of Marc Chagall. The love theme in the art of Chagall is invariably associated with the image of Bella. From canvases of all periods of his work, including later (after Bella’s death), her big black eyes look at us. Her features are recognizable in the faces of almost all the women depicted by him *.
“Everything can be changed in life and in art, and everything will change when we get rid of shame by pronouncing the word love. It is real art! That’s all my skill and all my religion, ”said the artist about his work. It is no coincidence that the main theme of the upcoming exhibition was chosen love, and with it the romance, tenderness and fidelity that permeate the work of Marc Chagall.
The name of the exhibition echoes the main series of paintings by the artist “Lovers” 1914-1917, revealing the essence of great feeling in various colors. It was they - the “Lovers” of Marc Chagall - who became the source of inspiration for the upcoming exhibition in the Altmans Gallery.
It is no accident that the work “Lovers with a Red Sun” is in the center of the exposition. The color component of lithography, as in other works of Chagall, does not imitate the real coloring of things, but creates an emotional atmosphere, the impression of a festive elation of what is happening over empirical reality.
The design of the exhibition was prepared by the architect, founder of the Bureau of PS Culture Julia Napolova, whose concept of the exhibition "Lovers" is formulated on the basis of the interior of the artist’s workshop. The theme of home carpets on walls and floors, lamps in lampshades on the ceiling, reveal the atmosphere of the artist’s home life, inseparable from his work. The cozy, intimate atmosphere of the place where the artist worked helps to reveal his understanding of the theme of love and tenderness, which the exhibition is dedicated to.
The exhibition is supported by the general sponsor - A101 Group of Companies, one of the largest residential real estate developers in the capital. On its own territory in New Moscow with an area of about 2500 hectares, the Group creates a modern balanced urban environment that takes into account all the needs of a modern person - builds housing and the necessary infrastructure, creates urban public spaces and recreation areas, creates jobs and attracts investors. A101 Group of Companies is a member of the PFG SAFMAR Mikhail Gutseriev, one of the largest industrial and financial groups in Russia.
“Creating a comfortable urban environment, we create a certain atmosphere and mood on the territory - in other words, we achieve completely the same methods as the artist when he creates the picture. Therefore, we are pleased to cooperate with the Altmans gallery in the framework of the Marc Chagall exhibition, ”said Anna Boim, Commercial Director of A101 Group of Companies.
The exhibition "Lovers" in the Altmans Gallery Moscow will be held from September 27 to November 5 at the address: Novinsky Boulevard, 31, TDC "Novinsky". The cost of admission is 300 rubles.
