A group of photographers who previously worked on the documentary project “Invisible Cities” (monogoroda.com) made an expedition in search of memory of the places of events of the Civil War in Russia - the Ice Campaign in the Kuban (formation of the White Army in March 1918) and the Great Ice Camp in Siberia (White Army retreat in early 1920).
The exhibition includes materials from the second part of the expedition - along the route of the Great Ice Campaign in Siberia.
The authors walked through the cities and villages of the Krasnoyarsk, Altai and Transbaikal Territories, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Kemerovo Region and the Republic of Buryatia. Observing the modern landscape, visiting small local history museums, communicating with the inhabitants of those places, living the path in the literal sense of the word, the expedition members were faced with their personal attitude to those tragic, complex and ambiguous events that happened a hundred years ago.
Emigrant writer Gaito Gazdanov wrote in the evening “Claire’s Evening”: “If you survive after all this massacre ends, you will read in special books a detailed account of the heroic defeat of the whites and the shamefully random victory of the reds - if the book is written by a scientist sympathizing with the white, and the heroic victory of the labor army over the mercenaries of the bourgeoisie - if the author is on the side of the Reds. " And so it happened. But another view is possible on this story: that there were not two or three sides, that, in fact, each person went through his own civil war, made his own personal campaign.
The exposition consists of photographs, texts, video and audio.
Authors and curators of the project: Ilya Pilipenko, Alexander Solo, Ekaterina Tolkacheva, Anton Akimov, Artem Lezhepekov. Scientific Advisor: Grigory Mangutov.
The idea of expeditions arose within the framework of the Reconciliation project with the support of the ArtTube information portal.
