From June 13 to September 15, the Gallery of Classical Photography will host an exhibition of one of the most famous and sought-after American photographers - Christopher Burkett. It will feature the brightest fruits of more than forty years of creativity, including the latest works of 2019 made using the manual optical printing technique from the Cibachrome slide.
The exposition includes about 130 canvases, united under the name "Christopher Burkett’s brilliant color: new works", which differ not only in impressive dimensions (up to 100x150 cm), but also in characteristic color contrast. This will be the most complete and large-scale exhibition of his works over the past few years. For the first time, Christopher’s stunning nature shots were successfully presented to the Russian public at the Classic Photography Gallery in 2011. And today, fans of the “color guru” have the opportunity to refresh old impressions and get new ones.
In the works of Burkett, the technical skill of printing is closely intertwined with a special vision and reliable transmission of natural colors and shades of nature. The master uses an unusually complex technique of color photo printing, carefully chooses the place and time of shooting - as a result, his work on color contrasts is more like illustrations for fairy tales than for life. It is no coincidence that Christopher calls his photos super-real, and understands his mission as follows: "Show what most people don’t see."
Visitors to Burkett’s exhibitions often often note that their feelings are akin to viewing paintings, although they know that they have pictures in front of them. However, his work does not imitate the "picturesque" effects of brush strokes, color mixing or deliberate riot of colors. Christopher not only captures the external appearance of things, like the great painters, he penetrates deeply into the mystery of the external appearance of nature and embodies it in works of art that reveal its inner light and living structure. The best photographs of the master give a feeling of an almost mystical connection with the viewer - this feeling can be experienced only by directly viewing the original print.
Christopher Burkett is one of America’s most popular and best-selling classic photographers. Every year, more than a thousand hand-made prints by the master are sold around the world, costing from two to twenty thousand dollars. At 68, Christopher continues to actively shoot, he is full of strength and creative energy. The creative process can be stopped only by the limited supply of unique Cibachrome paper, the production of which was discontinued in 2011. And when, in his laboratory, Burkett turned off his enlarger for the last time, we can live to see the end of the era of analog photography.
