The Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts opens the exhibition "Costume of the Peoples of Russia in Engravings by Russian and Western European Masters of the 19th Century", organized jointly with the International Confederation of Collectors, Antiquaries and Art Dealers (ICKAAD).
Viewers will get acquainted with works that are not only of artistic, cultural, but also ethnographic value. They were created in the first half of the 19th century, when many researchers had an increased interest in the study of peoples, their way of life, customs, against the background of which they traveled around the world, including Russia. Detailed sketches of the costumes of residents of different provinces, created on such trips, were later performed in the form of printed graphics and collected in albums. One of the most complete and colorful was the 1803 British edition "The Costume of Russian Empire". 22 graphic sheets presented in the museum hall refer to him. Also, the exposition is complemented by two compositions in the technique of chromolithography from the publication "Antiquities of the Russian State", prepared by Professor of the Imperial Academy of Arts F.G.Solntsev in 1849.
In addition, after the exhibition is over, prints depicting the costumes of peasants of the Kaluga province will be donated to the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts by MKAAD in order to replenish the collection.
The exhibition "The costume of the peoples of Russia in engravings by Russian and Western European masters of the 19th century" is open from October 14, 2021 to January 10, 2022 at the address Kaluga, st. Lenin 103.
