In the gallery "On Shabolovka" association "Exhibition Halls of Moscow" will be an exhibition "Constructivism - for children." The exhibition was organized jointly with the Russian State Children’s Library and the Center for the Avant-Garde of Library No. 164 "Education of Workers".
The exhibition “Constructivism for Children” presents children’s books of the 1920s and early 1930s that tell about the world’s structure, scientific inventions and things that surrounded the child in that historical period. These publications are a special section of Soviet culture; they are at the intersection of graphic design, pedagogy, literature, and socio-political history. The key to the creators of the exhibition was the synthesis of the book, its text, design and illustrations.
In the 1920s, Soviet children’s literature and book design reached an incredible level. The new visual and poetic language has completely formed a new generation of young Soviet citizens. The discoveries of cubism, futurism, constructivism, the concept of LEF, VKHUTEMAS, the new poetry of Vladimir Mayakovsky and representatives of OBERIU, the aesthetics of a modern city, and scientific inventions became accessible to everyone. It was a quiet revolution made by Yakov Meksin, Boris Zhitkov, Mikhail Ilyin, the Chichagov sisters, Vladimir Tambi, Vladimir Lebedev, Mikhail Tsekhanovsky, Dmitry Bulanov, Alexander Deineka, Vera Ermolaeva, Lev Zilov and many other famous and completely forgotten authors and artists.
The exhibition will feature children’s books from the collection of the Russian State Children’s Library, Galeev-Gallery, other private collections - as well as experimental games, designers, toys and animated films produced for children in this era. One of the halls of the exhibition will become a laboratory for children’s books, where from December to February master classes, lectures and film screenings on book design and graphics of the 1920-1930s and modern children’s book will be held.
Larisa Grinberg, artistic director of the gallery on the Shabolovka: “The Constructivism for Children exhibition will be of interest to both a wide“ adult ”audience - book collectors and the family audience, art historians and constructivism fans, and small viewers for whom we have developed a large block of diverse events ".
