Within the framework of the “Gallery of the Russian Federation” project, the Cooking Department presents a personal exhibition of Cyril Gatavan “Household Tenderness”. On the second floor of the space will be presented more than 30 watercolor drawings on paper, created by the artist specifically for this project.

Everyday household items in the drawings of Gatavan go beyond the boundaries of their material embodiment. The concept of a thing in his works is not just a reference to specific referents - they rather serve as a symbolic frame of the fundamental categories of time, life and death. The artist is inspired by the Western European still life (including his Vanitas subgenre) of the 16th - 17th centuries. His works do not have a clear concept, in the foreground is the idea to embody the "beautiful" in the ordinary.

Cyril deliberately confuses the viewer, creating an unusual exposure solution and additional objects that distract attention from the true essence of the images, complicating the dialogue, but at the same time, making it more emphasized.

Also at this time will be presented a reporting exhibition of the "School of street art." For two months, children and adolescents took part in a series of free practical and theoretical exercises with street artists. During the classes, students studied the main representatives and the history of street art: from the experiences of pioneers of street art in New York and subway bombing to the impact on the practice of leading areas of contemporary art and works by major contemporary artists. The project "School of Street Art" was selected for implementation according to the results of the selection of applications for participation in the program of residences of the Cooking Shop. The curators were Victoria Shcherbenko and Yuri Yurkin.

Brewing Shop

Non-profit project aimed at supporting young Russian artists and curators. The exhibition site opened on September 3, 2015 in a four-story building on the territory of the existing Moscow Brewing Company factory a few kilometers from the Moscow Ring Road. The first exhibitions of the project united the site-specific works created both in the exposition space and directly in the existing workshops of the plant.
