Modern industrial design today has become not only an important component of society, but also directed towards the future, capturing ever new areas of application. It has become a cultural seismograph that can predict the future of humanity. Israel’s first open-air industrial design exhibition in Moscow will be dedicated to this topic. It will include the work of graduates of the famous Bezalel Academy of Arts (Tel Aviv), the Israeli national Academy of Arts, created over the past few years.
On December 25, 2018 in Moscow, the Israeli cultural center “Nativ” at the Embassy of the State of Israel in the Russian Federation and the Embassy of the State of Israel in the Russian Federation will open for the general public the exhibition “Open Spaces” of the best graduates of the Bezalel Academy, which will talk about the interaction of technology and society, about how industrial design developments affect our lives.
Yana Agmon, Head of the Nativ Representative Office in the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus and the Baltic States, noted that: “The Israeli Cultural Center“ Nativ ”is very pleased to be able to introduce the public to the various facets of modern Israel. In December, we opened an exhibition of contemporary Israeli artists and continue a series of shows of contemporary Israeli culture with an exhibition of industrial design by the best graduates of the Bezalel Academy.
Kristina Krasnyanskaya, co-curator of the exhibition, founder and owner of the Heritage gallery, emphasized the importance of the project for Russia: “Today it is impossible to overestimate the interest in industrial design. After all, it shows our future habitat. Bright and innovative works of young and talented graduates of the Bezalel Academy give the Russian audience a unique opportunity to see what the world will be like tomorrow. ”
The main idea of the exhibition is to reflect the space of ideas and tasks in which modern industrial design exists, to outline its conceptual “field” - changing and sharply responsive to the requirements of the time, constantly expanding its borders. And it depends only on the talent of the designer whether he will carry only a utilitarian sense - to be convenient and comfortable or will also find an artistic “message”.
The exposition of 30 works will include five sections: “Ordinary Life”, “Environment”, “Culture and Education”, “Innovations”, “Local Cultures”. In "Ordinary Life" you can see furniture and design objects for daily use. Sri Senor’s “Rotating Surface” project explores the technology for producing ceramic jig jugs (a type of pottery wheel). Using simple and unexpected means, the author created a series of ceramics that argues and echoes the traditional methods of making dishes.
The “environment” will comprise items for public places, as well as projects related to energy and the environment. For example, Niva Cohen’s project “Jioco. Carpet Game ”, which combines the utilitarianism of the subject and an innovative approach to children’s play. A scaly rug made of felt and upholstery fabrics is both a toy for the development of the child and a harmonious part of the interior.
The Culture and Education section will show designers ideas for entertainment and leisure. Project “Neo Fruit. Fruits of the Future ”Meydana Levy - these are artificial fruits created using innovative technology, so that they contain all the necessary nutrients in the correct proportions. The shape and texture of the “fruits of the future” are designed not only to satisfy hunger, but also to provide aesthetic pleasure.
Advanced technologies in food, transport and communications will be placed in the “Innovations” section. For example, a suitcase of increased capacity "Packing in a new way" by Eli Spivak. The author has developed a compact suitcase that allows you to take with you 50% more than usual and not exceeding the size of hand luggage. The mini-suitcase is equipped with a vacuum compartment, which removes excess air from things using the built-in pump.
The section "Local cultures" is materials, crafts, traditions, local production. One of the projects in this section of Pirouette by Adar Naaman, which will show a new generation of pointe shoes, made of elastomeric material combined with textiles, made taking into account the individual characteristics of the dancers on a 3D printer. This shoe perfectly supports the feet and minimizes injuries.
Industrial design works at the intersection of consumption and art, which means that some of the exhibits will remain an art object, but another will certainly become a part of our lives. And this will happen in the very near future.
The BEZALEL Academy of Arts and Design was founded in 1906 in Jerusalem by the Jewish artist Boris Shats (born in Kaunas, Lithuania), he was also one of the founders of the Bulgarian National Academy of Arts in Sofia. The Faculty of Industrial Design appeared in the 1950s. years as the first̆ faculty in this̆ specialty in Israel. His main task was to build an academic system of teaching and lay the foundation for research in the field of industrial design. Graduates of this faculty are considered the most progressive in the field of industrial design around the world, they are at the forefront of research and development in this field, they are the main theorists.
