With the support of SIBUR under the Formula of Good Deeds social investment program, an exhibition dedicated to Russian design will be held in Tolyatti.
The History of Russian Design 1917–2017 is the first exhibition in the history of modern Russia, which presents the best examples of domestic design of its three main periods: constructivism (1917 - early 1930s), the formation and development of the Soviet design system (1950-1980) and modernity (1990–2017).
The main goal of the project is to acquaint a wide audience with the history of domestic industrial design from avant-garde to modern times, showing the most characteristic samples in one exposition.
The exhibition will run until July 27 and will be accompanied by specially prepared video content with archival materials and designer interviews, as well as audio guides and an educational program. Residents of Togliatti can attend free lectures and learn about industrial design, graphic design and architecture of the 20th century. Entrance to the exhibition and lectures is free.
The curators of the exhibition project are Alexandra Sankova, director of the Moscow Design Museum, Olga Druzhinina, development director of the Moscow Design Museum, art historian, author of numerous publications on Soviet and European design.
Olga Druzhinina, Development Director of the Moscow Design Museum and curator of the exhibition: “The History of Russian Design 1917–2017” is a unique project that covers all the stages of the development of Russian design for the first time: constructivism and production art of the 1920–1930s, Soviet design 1960–1980- x, modern Russian design. Our main task was to tell about the domestic cultural heritage in this area, therefore the exhibition was conceived as an educational project: for each city we are preparing a lecture program with the participation of representatives of the local design community. We hope that in Tolyatti, a city with a rich history of industrial design, the exhibition will be interesting both to professionals and a wide audience. ”
