The creative cluster "House of Culture" opens the Ladies POP ART exhibition by independent artist Irina Shirshikova. The exposition will be available to visitors from April 20 to May 4. Free admission.
Logos, brands, recognizable images of popular culture are often important elements of the artist’s work. In his paintings, the author also refers to the technique of homage (“imitation”) and ironically interprets the famous works of Matisse, Vermeer, Klimt and Picasso, putting a new meaning into the plots.
The exhibition will present more than 30 bright works of the artist. The author defines his main artistic style as conceptual pop art. Pop art originated in the 1950s and 1960s in Western Europe and the USA and was designed to look at consumer goods as signs of the times and part of life, and, therefore, part of art.
“The material and the spiritual are inseparable. Things, attributes, household items in my paintings often become symbols of philosophical ideas and help me convey meanings, and - even more valuable - encourage the viewer to come up with their own interpretation of the work. We are all to some extent dependent on the social environment, norms and accepted principles, but in the pursuit of this it is important not to lose ourselves and have the courage to be ourselves. This is a thought that runs like a red thread through all my work,” said Irina Shirshikova.
