From November 28 to December 15, 2019 at the Center for Photography named after Lumiere brothers will host an exhibition of photographs “In Between the Ends of a Rainbow”. The exhibition presents the work of Finnish photographers Johannes Rompanan, Aki-Pekki Sinikoski and Juuso Westerlund.
Juuso Westerlund, through photography, tells the story of two sons growing up.
- “With children, life turns into chaos, but among this chaos there are moments that I want to leave in my memory for life. Hugs, smiles, joy, crying, fear. "Their hearts beat so close that it seems to be beating mine."
Aki-Pekka Sinikoski helps her daughter fight fears in her New Ghosts photo series.
- “In childhood, we can easily name our fears. We are afraid of monsters, ghosts, bizarre shadows behind the curtain. As we grow older, fears become more abstract. Through photography, we manage to tame these faceless creatures. They no longer pose a danger, on the contrary, they help us become stronger. ”
Johannes Romppanen (Johannes Romppanen) - the author of a series of works by Lilia, dedicated to the daughter of the photographer, who, due to a difficult diagnosis, can not do without the help of loved ones. This is a story about the life of a family in which ambulance trips to the hospital become the new norm. A story of devastating fatigue, but also joy and gratitude.
- “Sometimes it is very important to share what others are silent about: the lives of people with disabilities are often hidden from prying eyes. I am revealing my family album in the hope of showing that life with resuscitation and doctors can be just as ordinary everyday life. ”
The exhibition is timed to coincide with the publication of the book on equal parenthood, “Nordic dads. 14 stories of how active fatherhood changes the lives of children and their parents. ”
The story of Johannes Romppanen is also included in one of the chapters of the book, and we hope that both his story and his photographs can become support for other parents of children with developmental disabilities.
The exhibition is organized by the Center for Photography. Lumiere brothers together with the Embassy of Finland in Moscow.
