An exhibition of watercolors by the famous Moscow architect Gavriil Ivanovich Akulov is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the author.
Since studying at the architectural college, Gabriel Akulov has continuously painted with charcoal, sanguine, felt-tip pen, pastel, and painted with watercolors. With particular skill he painted landscapes, including views of Moscow, Kiev, Lviv, Crimea, the Caucasus, the Carpathians, Tallinn and other cities of Estonia. An exceptional place in his work is occupied by the architectural landscapes of St. Petersburg and its suburbs, which he wrote, coming here at every opportunity. The works presented in the exposition are essentially diaries, travel notes, observations and analysis.
Gabriel Akulov (1928–1985) - the son of a prominent party and statesman I. Akulov, who was shot in 1937. After a half-homeless military childhood, he entered and graduated from the Moscow Architectural College in 1948. In 1949, he was arrested and exiled to Kazakhstan as a member of the traitor’s family. In 1955, rehabilitated. In 1956-1961 he studied at the Moscow Architectural Institute. He worked at Teploproekt (Lviv), Moselectroproekt, MGSPI, and MNIITEP. Since 1964, a member of the Union of Architects. He worked on industrial buildings in various cities of the USSR, then he was engaged in scientific research in the field of designing complex spatial structures. Together with his colleagues, he was a laureate of various prizes, registered a number of patents.
During his lifetime, he repeatedly participated in group exhibitions at design institutes in Moscow and the Central House of Architects.
