More than 100 photographs made in different genres will be presented in the Gallery of Classic Photography.

On June 10, the Gallery of Classic Photography will open the largest recent exhibition of contemporary Russian photography "PhotoTop". The exhibition will bring together more than fifty photographers of several generations, many of whom have never been exhibited together before.

"PhotoTop" will present about 200 significant works of contemporary photographers working in different directions and genres: reportage, psychological portrait, landscape, pictorial and street photography, etc. Within the framework of the exhibition, you can see the works of famous and recognizable masters of artistic and conceptual photography, including the postmodernist Andrey Chezhin, the creative duet of Valery and Natalia Cherkashin, working with the visual heritage of the USSR, the continuer of the Russian avant-garde tradition Vadim Gushchin, one of the most talented Russian portrait painters Oleg Videnin, the author of iconic photographs of famous artists and musicians Sergey Borisov and others.

A special place at the exhibition is occupied by an exposition of selected works of the outstanding artist Sergei Chilikov, one of the brightest leaders of new photography that appeared in the USSR in the 1970s. It includes 50 photographs, including a series of photographs from the Russian hinterland, which brought the photographer worldwide fame.

In addition to experienced artists, the exhibition will feature a whole generation of authors, for whom the time has come to move from the status of “young” artists to the status of established ones. Many of them use original photography techniques and experimental printing techniques. Among the topics that the authors will touch upon are the search for oneself, nature, the beauty of the female body, the interaction of man, history and time, the search for identity and a number of other pressing issues.

Viewers are invited to look into the future of Russian photography and answer the question of who can be called the main characters of the modern photographic scene today.

“The PhotoTop project is not a rating of the best photographers, it is a platform for communication between artists of different generations and the viewer,” says curator Oleg Arnautov. "The exhibition is an almost random cut of contemporary Russian photography, it allows you to see how our artists work today, how their work is developing and what topics they care about."

The exhibition includes works from the collection of the Gallery of Classical Photography (including photographs by Leonid Lazarev, Francisco Infante-Arana, Artem Vasilkov). The main part of the exposition consisted of photographs from the collection of the New Gallery (Moscow) and the Zerno Gallery (St. Petersburg). The personal exhibition of Sergei Chilikov is presented by the curator of photographic exhibitions Yevgeny Berezner. The curators of the PhotoTop exhibition were Oleg Arnautov, Alla Dolgaleva, Slava Kabanov.

The exhibition will continue its work until August 22. Within the framework of the project, master classes and meetings with photographers are planned.
