From August 10 to September 9 in the Attic of Artists is an exhibition of Eugene Pechersky. Last month, his daughter told us about Eugene and showed her favorite works from our collection. At the end of the summer, we will present these and new works of the artist, devoted to the abstract-surrealistic study of oriental culture.
Eugene Pechersky was born in 1952 in Kazakhstan. From 1992 to 1994, he led the group for the restoration of traditional felt in Northern Kazakhstan, and, together with a group of scientists and enthusiasts, conducted interdisciplinary research work on the interpretation of the language of carpet texts. His work today continues the same storyline, turning to the Kazakh folk patterns and Buddhist symbols. Pechersky performs his paintings in the laborious technique of multi-layer frotting, layering, scraping, rubbing and again layering paint. Today, Eugene lives in Kaliningrad, where he continues his active artistic and social activities.
The paintings of Pechersky gathered on the walls of the Attic of Artists look like a motley oriental rug. Take a look at the Kunstkamera, study the life of the Kazakhs and other peoples of Central Asia, admire the decorative art of the nomads, and then come to the Attic and sit in a modern yurt covered in carpet paintings.
