On August 25, at Cinema Night, Gallery A3 of the Moscow Exhibition Halls Association will host a mini-exhibition and film screenings dedicated to the work of the outstanding Russian cinema artist Yevgeny Eney.
The artist is one of the most important participants in the film process. However, viewers usually do not know the names of artists, all their love goes to actors and directors. Film critics sometimes even mention in their articles the work of a screenwriter, cameraman, sometimes a composer, but almost no one ever talks about film artists. Meanwhile, it is the artist who is the first of all the filmmakers to make his world visible. He was the first to visualize images that vaguely attract the director from the pages of the script. The artist’s sketches give impetus to the creative search for the operator, sometimes even setting the path of the camera, and the storyboards drawn by the artist set the rhythm and pattern for future editing.
It is in the artist’s mind for the first time that the faces and figures of the characters of the film appear, and according to his sketches, the assistant for actors begins the search for role performers. When the actors are found, the costume designer dresses them in the clothes he created, helping the actors understand the character of their heroes and era, and the makeup artist transforms the actors, drawing someone else’s fate on their faces. Artists, costume designers, make-up artists, props, and nowadays also computer graphic artists - their contribution to the cinema is huge and worthy of the attention of the general public.
The exhibition will feature sketches for the film by Grigory Kozintsev “Don Quixote”. The exhibition will include a screening of the films "New Babylon" (1929, dir. G. Kozintsev, L. Trauberg), "Don Quixote" (1957, dir. G. Kozintsev)
