The March slush has not yet come down, and somewhere it is snowing somewhere, not spring rains, but in St. Petersburg all thoughts are already about summer. In April, some only looked at the dachas on the seashore, while others had already booked rooms for the whole family and compiled a list of beaches, coffee houses, galleries and all the places where you can run into and where you can lie on short, but wonderful vacation days. The artist Elena Larikova offers us to dream about a joyful time of rest.
Her paintings are like postcards sent from vacation to their own address: beautiful, elegant, recognizable, but not commonplace. Elena writes in the open air and often indicates specific geographical points in the names, but the sunlit views in her paintings are most similar to our northern fantasies about the real summer, about walking along the deserted morning streets and a relaxed breakfast in an outdoor cafe. Even in St. Petersburg, Larikova appears something from a small Italian town. Without going into unnecessary details, Elena Larikova writes an impressionistic dream about the southern summer: sunny, with contrasting shadows and air fluctuating from the heat, filled with the smells of the sea, heated sand and vineyards.
