As we recalled in July, St. Petersburg is a sea city. But water does not only wash its sides or, like a top from a lullaby, bites off these sides with bays. The city is cut by 94 rivers, canals and canals, and from all sides surrounded by countless lakes. From September 10 to October 9 in the Attic of artists, who settled on one of the St. Petersburg islands, an exhibition of Elena Bolgova is held, dedicated to two cities on the water - Northern Venice and just Venice.
Thanks to the French traveler Theofil Gauthier, who in the 19th century first compared Petersburg to Venice, everyone almost forgot that the prototype of our city was not Venice, but mainly Amsterdam. And yet in St. Petersburg there is a solemnity not characteristic of the capital of the Netherlands, and the three Rastrelli-Trezzini-Quarenghi as “Our Father” is known to every Petersburg preschool child and any tourist who has visited at least a couple of excursions. Elena Bolgova develops a parallel between the two cities, famous for their bridges and embankments, and at her exhibition she tries to cross the invisible cultural bridge, which, according to her, is connected between Venice and St. Petersburg.
