The exhibition EGOCENTRIYA is a story about a solipsic view of the world and a statement of the bankruptcy of such a vision. Is ego the essence of creativity? The ego is the center of perception of reality. Self-centeredness is a neologism designed to explain the artist’s loneliness; it is a disease of art and the only way art can be. The project participants tried to find the right distance to the person, and then to look at themselves with the eyes of others. On the one hand, the ego-center of the work is devoid of explicit personification. On the other hand, all the works of this project are about man. A form of mythological self-understanding.
The authors were asked several questions. What says most about a person: his presence or his absence? What is our personality? What is stopping us from being who we want to be? How do people see us? How to explain something that does not lie in the plane of the logic of the material world?
The answers to these questions were included in five subprojects:
“Man without a landscape” - images of a place without inhabitants. The world for one: nightmare or happiness? Camera obscura, daguerreotype, capturing only motionless.
“Model for assembly” is an attempt to look into one’s own memory and extract from it fragments of images of things that are very important and completely random, attractive or repulsive. Trying to figure out how perception works. What will remain of our reality if we are deprived of the possibility of communication with the world.
“Resentiment” - transferring responsibility for one’s fate to someone or something. A cry of a curse, a sigh of humility, an indifferent statement. In the project - the result of the sublimation of a complex of insecurity in front of forces that can influence us.
“Alter-ego” is a search for oneself in the image of another. The search for something else in yourself, that which cannot belong to one thing: memes and patches, personality add-ons.
"Consolidated Mythology . " When there are no words to express feelings and emotions, a myth remains. When any metaphor runs the risk of becoming commonplace, the artist turns to iconography.
The exposition included about eighty paintings. Etymologically, the word “picture” can be correlated with the concept of “completeness”. The term “painting” embraces the process itself; it does not contain an idea of the beginning and end of an action. When a “picture” is superimposed on a painting, this implies a certain completeness of the process. Painting is oppressed by the scope of the picture. In this sense, the presented works are practically devoid of picturesqueness. Color, plastic, various techniques and techniques, as before, excite the authors, but rather, in a broader sense, beyond the scope of the workshop of the artist-painter.
