An exhibition about the transcendental in the art of the digital age opens on December 15 at the Electromuseum in Rostokino of the Exhibition Halls of Moscow Association.
The exhibition is dedicated to the reflection of religious and spiritual themes traditional for classical art in the works of contemporary artists working in the field of new media. The modern “religious” cult is the cult of the gadget and social networks, generating a new aesthetics and new rituals: regular posts, likes, comments, check-ins. Unlimited access to a huge amount of information allows a modern person to combine an individual religion from blocks representing the beliefs, rituals and symbols of various peoples and historical periods. So metaphysics merges with consumerism, and the consumption of information becomes a daily spiritual practice.
Alexey Shulgin, curator of the exhibition: “At all times, artists turned to the theme of soul and spirituality in their work. The new, digital era is no exception. The exhibition “Spirit and Number” aims to study how this happens - at the level of images, concepts, creative methods. How does a Buddha get along with an iPad? How is consumer technology becoming a new cult? How do new visuals reflect the transcendental in a new way? ”
The exhibition will feature dozens of works in various genres and media - from digital prints to interactive installations - by both Russian and foreign artists.
Exhibitors: Electroboutique, exonemo (Japan), Recycle, tenpoint (Ukraine), Anvar Musrepov (Kazakhstan), Nazrin Mammadova (Azerbaijan), Olga Shapovalova, Anna Tolkacheva, Antonina Baever, Alexander Skobeev, Gleb Katchuk and Olga Kashimbekova, Lyudmila Zinchenko, Victor Polyakov, Anna Brandush, Grigory Selsky, Bulat Galeev, Nam Joon Pike (South Korea) and others.
