On November 9, on Wednesday, the “Electromuseum in Rostokino” of the Exhibition Halls of Moscow Association opens after a repair break and begins the season with a large overview exhibition dedicated to the ideas and technologies of DIY art.
"DIY" ("Do it yourself") is an area of art that emerged in the 20th century and has only become widespread today. The DIY movement brings together artists, engineers, programmers and exists at the junction between the "artistic" and "applied" aspects of creativity. DIY arises as a reaction to the increasingly technologically sophisticated world and the closeness of technical systems. The unique exhibition "Technoart. Open Source Art" covers various areas of Russian DIY art and represents more than twenty comments communication final and interactive objects, audio and robotic installations, following the principle of "open source" or "open design". All submitted works were invented, designed and implemented by the authors themselves.
Alexey Shulgin, curator of the Electromuseum: “We can’t imagine our existence without technology - more and more complicated, more and more seductive - but at the same time we understand less and less how it works. Smart technology does a lot for us, and as a result, we lose the skills that we had before: correctly write, count, draw, sew, photograph, navigate in the city, memorize information, manual (and mental) labor skills. Computers and robots massively replace people in many industries. The hardware and software created by corporations for profit, created using proprietary technologies, gradually begin to control us at all levels of life. As a reaction to the described processes, counter initiatives and movements develop (Hacking, Open source software, Open source electronics), which enable the individual to express himself as a modern artist working with software code, electronic, mechanical and acoustic components. ”
Participants of the exhibition: Papa Srapa, :: vtol ::, Sergey Filatov, Oleg Makarov, Vasily Yolshin, Boris Shershenkov, Anastasia Alyokhina, Max Kalmykov, Danya Vasilyev, Vladimir Demin, Anna Tolkacheva, PROTOTIP group, RnD / MSK /, Natalya Sheremetova, Ilya Derzaev, Nikolai Smirnov, Vasily Klenov, Alisa Smorodina and others.
