The Dialogues with Homer exhibition is a graduation project of students of the Kaluga Regional College of Culture and Arts, specializing in Painting, it is a collection of works on a single topic: "Ancient Literature: Homer" Iliad ", created in 2016 on the initiative of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and dedicated to the cross-year culture of Russia and Greece. Graduation was held in June 2016.
This is a kind of attempt to take the graduation project outside the college and transform it into an educational project, deepening familiarity with Greek culture and expanding the audience.
The main concept of the exhibition project is to encourage the viewer to comprehend the philosophical issues and topics of life and death, human life, raised by Homer. In order for people unfamiliar with the work of this ancient poet, or little to know with him, to approach the greatest work in order to study through it later other ancient literature, history and fine art through which knowledge of the eternal and the momentary comes.
During the year, students independently studied this work, collecting various material related to this topic, and also participated in a joint reading of the poem “Iliad”, where, together with teachers, they sorted out plots, discussed heroes and ideas of this literary work. Young artists stubbornly walked towards the realization of their ideas, Greek classical motifs are presented in their thesis with exceptional personal perception of the poem, with its understanding and falling in love with a great antique text.
The exhibition also included sketches, sketches, picturesque field studies, photos of the creative process, costumes, field details, hand-made by students and teachers to work on canvas. All these details will contribute to the deep immersion of the viewer in the creative process, in a kind of laboratory of the artist, like a look from behind the scenes, where the most interesting happens, where art is born.
The exposition will be accompanied by texts: art criticism annotation for each picture, an article about Homer and his work “Iliad”, quotes from the text of the poem.
The presented exhibition project “Dialogues with Homer” is an occasion to talk about ancient and current ideals, about a simple human life, about the war that takes this life away. The constant classic, proclaiming high ideals and shedding light on various social issues - what could be more relevant for modern times?
“Iliad” is an essay with the help of which self-knowledge is built, self-identification takes place. The Dialogues with Homer project calls for self-knowledge and self-education, which is especially important in the modern world.
A cultural program is planned within the framework of the exhibition, which will help visitors penetrate deeper into the atmosphere of ancient Greece.
