February 26 at 16.00 in the Estate of V.P. Sukachev (112 December Events Street) the exhibition "Buryaad yurtemsa" ("Buryat Universe") opens, dedicated to the onset of the White Sagaaalgan Month Festival. The exposition includes paintings, national clothes, jewelry, as well as objects of a Buddhist cult used in religious rituals from the funds of the National Museum of the Ust-Orda Buryat District.
The New Year according to the lunar calendar - Sagaalgan, or the White Month Festival - was celebrated on February 24 by Buddhists of Russia. For this event, the National Museum of the Ust-Orda Buryat District presents exhibits from its funds in the Estate of V.P. Sukachev. The exposition, which includes almost 100 works, is divided into two thematic blocks. The first part of the exhibition is dedicated to the history and traditions of the Buryat people and the closely related shamanism. This theme is reflected in the paintings of famous Irkutsk, Buryat and Mongolian artists Sergei Baldaev, Karl Shulunov, Balzhinima Dorzhiev and others, as well as in clothing and traditional jewelry. The second part of the exposition is dedicated to Buddhism - here are presented religious objects used in rituals in temples and houses, Buddhist tank icons, sculptures, bowls for offerings. The exhibition will be interesting not only for adults, but also for children of all ages, since the exposition is supplemented by the works of students of Buryat children’s art schools dedicated to Sagaalgan.
The exhibition "The Buryat Universe" will open on February 26 at 16.00 in the Estate of V.P. Sukachev (112 December Events Street) and will run until March 22. Entrance to the opening is free.
