Love is in simplicity and spontaneity: in February, artist Boris Zinkevich, known for his original style of embodying stories about the eternal, will present love, mythical and real, at Artmuseum.
Love is an inexhaustible theme in art, and following the Old Testament wise men, the St. Petersburg author Boris Zinkevich also addresses it. The unique style, playfulness of heroines and heroes is the artist’s calling card; his work, according to the audience, I want to believe; and consider them, smiling somehow inside yourself. His stories about love are like stories with an open ending, leaving unanswered questions: is there love, and, if so, is it eternal or final? Is it right to talk about it or should it be silent? Love falls on a person just like that, or does he have to deserve it?
Artist Yury Gusev, a close friend of Zinkevich, notes: “Among his numerous works, there are masterpieces of piercing power, as they say, image and color. The image is not reality at all, and the color is not nature. The artist masterfully depicts the chemistry that occurs between a man and a woman, whether it is an all-consuming passion, silent understanding or playing with fire. Female characters often appear as objects of worship, they are the axis of the composition, around which certain movements of male images take place. And if on one of Zinkevich’s works the peasants in vests steal the Mermaid, peacefully bathing in the lake, then on the other, equality is restored and the Amazon is dragging an armful of guys somewhere.
Boris Zinkevich has been a member of the Union of Artists of Russia since 1990, a member of IFA since 2010. Participates in exhibitions since 1982, his works are in the collection of the Ministry of Culture of Russia (Moscow), the Museum of the History of St. Petersburg), Russian state art museums and in private collections abroad. His personal exhibition at Artmuse is available daily with free admission and will open on February 4 with the vernissage in the presence of the author. Curator - Marina Gurevich.
