Many considered him an overly public person. It was said that the life of this artist was motley, like the outfits of the Moulin Rouge cabaret dancers. But thanks to his world-famous works, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was and remains the brightest representative of the creative elite of Paris at the end of the 19th century. His works are extremely frank, behind the ostentatious brilliance of bohemian life hid the true, not always attractive face of reality.
The exhibition “Paris, Paris…” presents 52 lithographs demonstrating the essence of cabaret burlesque in different variations. Posters of dancers and actresses, works from the famous "circus" series will allow you to feel the brightness of a luxurious and nonchalant era, called "La Belle Époque". Visitors to the exhibition will be able to plunge headlong into the alluring realm of fun, dancing and dizzying stunts!
The exposition space is divided into three main parts:
The youth of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (works: early portraits, animalistic theme in the work).
The maturity of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (works: posters for the cabaret “Moulin Rouge”, “Moulin de la Galette”, “Sofa Japone” and others, the daily life of courtesans).
The late period of the work of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (works: circus sketches, theater posters 1989-1900).
Especially for the exhibition, information stands were developed that tell about the life of the artist himself, in particular, about the history of his tragic childhood, becoming an artist, and forming his own style. In addition, interesting historical facts about the life and work of the artist’s favorite characters (La Goulue, Jane Avril, Yvette Gilbert, Aristide Bruant, and the clowness Sha-Yu-Kao) are presented at the stands.
The exhibition of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec "Paris, Paris…" will open on December 9 at 16.00 in the main building of the Irkutsk Regional Art Museum at the address: st. Lenin, 5. The exhibition will last until February 16, 2016. Ticket price: adult - 300 rubles, preferential ticket (children under 18 years of age, students, pensioners) - 200 rubles.
