The work of Alexander Brashkin began not in an art school or Academy, but on the street. The author achieved recognition as a street artist, being in the list of artists of the British gallery Opus Underground along with Banksy and Ben Frost. However, over time, Alexander traded the assault on the next city wall for anatomical drawing and oil painting.
He came to a new viewer with a somewhat naive, but very honest position of the artist, relying on his own strength, following emotional impulses, believing in the power of inspiration and originality of his own worldview.
The street period of Alexander Brashkin is associated with demonic images, but in his painting he refers to man. In a series of 16 works presented at the exhibition in the Erarta Museum, the artist depicts a behind-the-scenes personality, where the moral code is inferior to the rebellion of desires. In addition to a clear satirical line, Alexander Brashkin offers visions of a different reality, where violence, fornication and a cult of pleasure naturally coexist.
In his works, the author allows his heroes to abandon morality. In search of new sensations, in the struggle with his demons and conscious defeat in this conflict, he breaks through a valuable stream of the unconscious - alter ego, which does not need to be evaluated as “good” or “bad”.
The characters of Brashkin’s paintings seem to be taking off all the restraints for the first time and open to us a world freed from social attitudes and imposed rules.
