The exhibition "Academic Drawing in Architectural Education: Gennady Ovcharenko (MARCHI)" opens an extensive program of the Russian Academy of Arts "Academic Drawing in Education", in which the leading creative universities and art schools of Russia are expected to participate. The initiative to fully support the great national traditions of academic drawing, which historically arose at the Academy of Arts in the 18th century, comes from the President of the Academy, Zurab Konstantinovich Tsereteli.
At the suggestion of the Department of Art History and Art Criticism of the Russian Academy of Arts, we begin a series of exhibitions and publications from the Moscow Architectural Institute, where the academic tradition of creative education has been preserved, formed by the vice-president of the Academy V.I.Bazhenov back in the era of Empress Catherine the Great.
The first exhibition is dedicated to the work of the best modern master of architectural drawing, an outstanding teacher, Professor Gennady Gennadievich Ovcharenko. He has prepared many generations of architects on the basis of classical designs. Thanks to his talent as a draftsman and teacher, his students - Russian architects - remain staunch supporters of classical art.
The exposition includes more than 40 works of different years: landscapes and portraits made in the technique of pastel, sepia, pencil drawing, charcoal drawing, oil painting, several samples of educational drawings.
Gennady Gennadievich Ovcharenko was born in 1964. Graduated from the Moscow Institute of Architecture in 1986. He worked as an architect at TsNIIP Grado.
