Representing traditional Chinese painting in the Gongbihua style will be more than 40 contemporary artists from China and Russia.
For the second year in a row, the Gunbi-style Chinese Painting Festival will be held in Moscow from September 11 to October 4 with the support of the Chinese Cultural Center, with the participation of contemporary Chinese and Russian artists representing this style. The festival program in the Central House of Artists on Krymsky Val includes painting workshops and an exhibition of the works of more than 40 contemporary artists from China and Russia.
Interestingly, the word "Gunbi" from the Chinese language can be translated as "thorough or diligent brush." This style is one of the oldest, because it appeared almost 2000 years ago. Its features include close attention to detail, splendor, grace, decorativeness and splendor. This style is also called the "clear lines style", because the artist depicts objects and details with carefully drawn contour lines. Gunbi-style paintings look very decorative because of the durability and brightness of the colors. Artists working on interior painting of the palaces of the emperor and the nobility did this using the Gunbi style. Masters who did not own this style were not allowed to work of such complexity. Due to the high price of such paintings, only wealthy people could afford them.
At the exhibition of the second festival of Chinese painting in the Gunbi style, landscapes, images of flowers and birds, animals and fish, beautiful women performed by the most prominent Russian and Chinese painters will again be presented. And the carefully drawn mustache of moths, the delicate blush of the cheeks of beauties, the subtle color nuances of flower buds or the fur of animals, grandly presented in the works of artists, will amaze everyone present.
A special event will be the exhibition of the outstanding Chinese master in the style of Gunby, Mr. Gong Xueqing. He will personally attend the opening of the second part of the exhibition and hold several painting workshops. Mr. Gong Xueqing was the first who managed to combine the Chinese style of drawing with Western techniques, creating a new style in Chinese painting. He cleverly combines illusion with realistic plots of the work. The artist’s abilities and skill show the magnificent structure of the composition, and the paintings are distinguished by the unusual rhythm of filling the void and the fullness of space.
The relevance of the Gunby style in our time is quite high and is confirmed by the holding of numerous exhibitions around the world, the publication of books on painting in the Gunbi style, working schools that teach the basics of traditional fine art. Many professionals consider Gunbi the main idea of oriental painting - the search for a path to the knowledge of the world and oneself, self-expression.
Visitors will have the opportunity to not only see the work of Chinese and Russian artists at the same time, but also plunge into the world of Chinese tea and take part in the tea ceremony from the My Tea company, as well as treat themselves to an incredible gastronomic surprise, which will be prepared by the festival partner, the Moscow restaurant of national Chinese cuisine Jimmy Li. It will not do without workshops on cooking Chinese cuisine, as well as modeling animals from rice dough from the restaurant chef Liu Fei (Liu Fei). According to chef Jimmy Li, cooking is also an art comparable to painting.
The first festival of traditional Chinese painting in the Gunbi style was successfully held in 2017, bringing together more than 10 thousand people at the Central House of Artists. The organizer of the project is the Moscow club of lovers of Chinese painting Gunbi. Club President Yulia Tolmacheva is confident that the festival contributes to an increase in interest in contemporary art, Chinese traditional culture and China as a whole.
