CTI "Factory" and E.K. Art Bureau present the first solo exhibition of photographer Vladimir Markovich.
A graduate of the Moscow Aviation Institute and a successful leader in the music industry, Markovich turned to professional photography in 2008. He met his main teacher at the School of Modern Photography - Andrei Rogozin not only taught the novice master how to work with light, the selection of photographs and experiments with optics, but also helped to find his own worldview and author’s intuition. Over the past years, Vladimir Markovich successfully participated in group projects and international competitions. In 2015, he became the winner of the Europuls portal photo contest in conjunction with the European Union Delegation to Russia and released his first photobook Decorations.
The exhibition will feature shots from different years on external and existential changes in urban space, seen through the prism of the author’s lens and emotional filter. The name of the project was given by one of the works, however, for the author, the red horse is primarily a symbol of the absurd and beautiful, dating back to the traditions of the world avant-garde.
In Markovich’s photographs, architectural ruins, abandoned construction sites and rickety fences gain an antique touch, hinting at the historical value of the past. Sometimes they cease to be perceived as a man-made object, mimicking the surrounding landscape, literally turning into an organic object. The effect of a frozen time, the semantic completeness of the images and the subtle emotional system give a special aesthetic expressiveness to the composition, regardless of its plot. According to the author, “this study of the city is a search, so sometimes encrypted images and symbols of its inhabitants appear in frames. Here you can find a good ghost and a red horse - the hidden inhabitants of a deserted city, sometimes cautiously showing themselves in the frame. "
In anticipation of the opening, the curator of the exhibition, Yulia Lebedeva, noted: “For the artist himself, these photos are witnesses of the experience of life changes that make you take a fresh look at many things, see beauty in something that you may not have noticed before, focus on details, subtleties and, finally, for a while to recover, but, as a true resident of the metropolis, experience this state with the city. " “The protagonist of the exhibition is old Moscow, which has long ceased to be old and has almost ceased to be Moscow, that is, it is a city in which the facades are covered with nets, the sidewalks with fences. Vladimir Markovich poetizes a metal fence and a building mesh, concrete slabs and a protective signal tape. And, perhaps, he is the first author in our photo who looks at this Sobyanin Moscow as a poet, ”commented the historian of photography, art critic Mikhail Sidlin.
Continuing the traditions of Alexander Slyusarev and Boris Savelyev, Markovich turns to pure photography, studies the forms of objects and their interactions - dancing colors and harmony of lines, ripples of reflections and shaking of shadows, transparent transparency and density of dense, and, thus, explores the material of life by means of the camera.
