The Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art opens the eighth exhibition of the farewell cycle “Farewell to Eternal Youth” - Vladimir Logutov “The Next Level”. The artist takes a mediating position between the image and the viewer, lovingly collecting modernist compositions, exploring the possibilities of modern optics for the perception of works of art. The architecture of the exhibition is arranged as a kind of catalog of the various possibilities of the exhibition space. The exhibition will feature about 80 works by the artist of various times, beginning in the mid-2000s, most of which were created specifically for the exhibition, including graphics, painting, photography, video, and objects.
The curator of the exhibition Ekaterina Inozemtseva: “The artist Logutov for the exhibition has chosen perhaps the most burning plot that occupies the audience. How and what are we really looking at? What is the subject of the image and the visualization as such?
The metaphor of vision, “extended viewing”, as Mikhail Matyushin, once a classic of the Russian avant-garde, once formulated, unfolds in the architecture of the exhibition: it is arranged as a kind of catalog of various possibilities and life forms of the so-called white cube, an ideal (still, according to many) exhibition space. Moreover, in each of the blocks there are various elements (slots, holes, etc.) that make the entire space transit, open unexpected perspectives and points of view, and form new, unexpected situations of observing art. ”
Artist Vladimir Logutov: “Our art school is deeply“ graphic ”. In inheriting this paradigm, I propose a variation of the modern picture, in the role of the “hero” of another work. A picture of mine is born already depicted in another picture. Thus, my art remains "graphic" even if it depicts modern abstract painting. Despite the fact that the work, as it were, is original, because it does not have its prototype somewhere outside my picture depicting it. The final work may consist of several "depicted" paintings that make up a small exhibition. "
In 2017, the Vinzavod Center for Contemporary Art, one of the first and largest private art centers in Russia, will turn ten years old. The main event of the anniversary year was the cycle “Farewell to Eternal Youth” - large-scale solo exhibitions of new generation artists, who are behind the future of contemporary Russian art. As part of the cycle, the exhibitions of Yegor Koshelev, Urban Fauna Lab (Alexey Buldakov and Anastasia Potemkina), Evgeny Granilshchikov, ZIP, Misha Most and Recycle Group have already been held. Ahead of the projects are Arseny Zhilyaev, Taus Makhacheva, Irina Korina and Polina Kanis.
Since the opening of the Winery, a generation of artists has formed that is still called young, although they have already won an audience and are actively involved not only in the Russian, but also in the global art process. We want to capture the transition of artists from the definition of "young" to the status of "held."
