Erarta Museum of Modern Art presents the Whirlwind photo exhibition by Alexandra Kravtsova.
Alexandra Kravtsova was born in Siberia, but now lives in St. Petersburg. She has been engaged in artistic photography since 2010. The main sources of his inspiration, Alexander calls cinema and paintings of the Impressionists. Exhibitions of her works over the past few years have been held not only in Moscow and St. Petersburg, but also abroad.
About the creation of the cycle "Whirlwind" by Alexander Kravtsov, he says this:
“In my grandmother’s old and such native Yakut house, a reproduction of the Whirlwind painting by the Russian painter Filipp Andreyevich Malyavin hung. In childhood, she could not tear her eyes from her. So much in it was movement, joy, love of life! Outside the window there are snowdrifts of snow and burning frost, and before our eyes there is a fiery whirlwind of human joy and happiness in dance!
Time passed, and suddenly she began to catch the glimpses of the familiar “Whirlwind” everywhere: on the pages of random magazines, in posters, in television programs. The whirlwind even in a dream covered. The idea circled around, loomed a sign, did not let go, took prisoner. Then my first series appeared - “Indian Dances”.
The inner desire to continue the series and show the national dance as a form of meditation in motion, erasing the temporal, cultural, religious boundaries, led to the creation of photographs “Dervishes”, “Flamenco”, “Indians”, “Papua”, “Yakut dances”, “Ukrainian dancing. " Together they make up the Whirlwind photo cycle. ”
Over two years of work on the Whirlwind cycle, Alexander shot about 10,000 shots, of which only a few were selected for the exhibition at the Erart Museum. When shooting, the photographer, as a rule, uses a long shutter speed - with the help of this technique she tries to create the illusion of movement of the dancers and the atmosphere of the impressionist paintings.
The exposition will be available to visitors from March 29 to May 21, 2018.
