"Solar" sculptures by Israeli artist David Gerstein.
Down with the winter blues! In the Altmans Gallery, spring will come earlier than the calendar one - in the very heart of Moscow, in the Romanov Dvor business quarter, flowers will bloom on February 21, butterflies will flutter and the sun will shine. All thanks to the world famous artist David Gershtein: his bright works will transform the space of the gallery, and the exhibition with the speaking name "Vitamin 3D" will energize! The exposition will present 25 works made in a unique technique at the junction of two types of art - painting and sculpture. “Paintings that have gone beyond the framework and received a new living space” - this definition was given to American critics by the unusual works of Gerstein. The artist himself compares his work with… fruits: “He who tastes the fruit always knows that it contains vitamins. So, in my works there are those same vitamins. ”
“Useful” sculptures will arrive in Moscow straight from the “Hill of Spring” - that is exactly how, according to one version, the name Tel Aviv is translated.
During the exhibition, the new Altmans Gallery venue in the prestigious Romanov Dvor business space will turn into a real oasis among the stone jungle: postmodernist David Gershtein, revising European traditions and interpreting the plots of American pop culture in his own way, invites the viewer to plunge into a world full of light, freedom and serenity. Multicolor compositions break the boundaries between the viewer and the sculpture - the paints seem to go beyond the work, reviving the space around.
The Vitamin 3D exhibition at Altmans Gallery will be the first large-scale exhibition of David Gerstein in Moscow. Today, David Gerstein is one of the most sought-after Israeli artists whose name is known all over the world: Gerstein’s works are presented in major international galleries, and the artist has more than 20 solo exhibitions. Gerstein tried himself in painting, drawing, sculpture, but found his own, unique style precisely in the unusual combination of these different types of art. Simple real objects, due to their peculiar forms and unusually bright colors, appear in a completely new form, allowing you to fully experience the author’s mood and plunge into the world of his ideas.
Herstein’s works are well-known all over the world not only for art lovers who visit exhibitions and replenish their collections with the author’s works, but also for many people who get to know the colorful sculptures of Gerstein directly on city streets, being among the author’s spectacular installations. One of them - the 18-meter sculpture “Moment” - the highest in Singapore, revives the business district of the city with its colorfulness. Many brightly colored figures moving in a spiral are a symbol of endless movement, illustrating the idea of progress, the connection of time and generation. Original works of the Israeli artist, made of steel and painted manually in rich colors, attract attention and invariably give a good mood. Just as the city is being transformed thanks to the colorful installations of David Gershtein, so the interiors of private houses decorated with copyright wall sculptures come to life again, pleasing the eye with their bright colors and giving a “vitamin” boost of energy every day.
The works of David Gershtein, made in a single copy, in Russia are exclusively represented in the Altmans Gallery.
David Gershtein, artist:
“The exhibition at the Altmans Gallery is my first major solo exhibition in Moscow. I will be happy to meet with the Russian public and see how people react to my work. A few years ago I made a wall sculpture for the Romanov Dvor business space - it aroused great interest among visitors to the complex. This time I present a wide range of works, mainly works created by me over 5 years, including the most recent works. For many years I have been researching how to apply the properties of three-dimensional space in the field of art, and as a result I have created my own unique style, recognizable all over the world. 3D sculpture is my calling card. I expanded the horizons of the paintings, lining the surface with the help of three parallel layers of aluminum cutouts, painted in bright colors.
At the exhibition in the Altmans Gallery a special place will be occupied by sculptures dedicated to the urban theme - life in various cities, from New York to Tel Aviv. Recently, I have been looking with increasing curiosity at the movements of people in a big city, watching how they look, how they behave in public places. I’m interested in the movement as such - whether it’s a walk, a butterfly flying or a brush stroke. The main part of my work is filled with this feeling of movement, a holiday of life, joy. ”
Egor Altman, Founder of Altmans Gallery:
“David Gershtein is in every sense a brilliant artist, worthily recognized throughout the world. Moscow until now, unfortunately, did not have the opportunity to fully get acquainted with the work of the Israeli artist, but the exhibition in the Altmans Gallery will fix this: we will present 25 original works of David Gershtein, made in his corporate style. Herstein sculptures are remembered for their rich color and intricate shapes - they are definitely not to be confused with anything! And, of course, Gerstein’s work perfectly conveys the spirit of spring. Despite the fact that this year the winter turned out to be unusually warm, spring - real spring - we still look forward to it. Thanks to the exhibition of Herstein sculptures filled with sun and heat, we will be able to bring this moment closer - our gallery in the Romanov Dvor will literally blossom. ”
