Gastel repeatedly in his interviews spoke about the influence that cinema had on him, and, in particular, the figure of his uncle. L. Visconti is fantastically relevant today, although this could be least expected. His academicism, total immersion in the process of reconstructing history, criticism of the claims to the Absolute, which did not, however, make him a relativist, is today that position that seems to be the most profound in the distribution of the grandees of author’s cinema, who understood the origins of totalitarian regimes.
