From November 22, 2024, the Nagornaya Gallery of the Moscow Exhibition Halls Association will host the exhibition “VGIK. NEKINO” by People’s Artist of Russia Anton Stekolshchikov.
Anton Vyacheslavovich Stekolshchikov is an artist, painter, People’s Artist of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, member of the Moscow Union of Artists, member of the Union of Artists of Russia, active participant in Moscow, regional, all-Russian and foreign exhibitions. The artist has received state, professional and public awards. His works are in museums and private collections in Russia and abroad.
The name of Anton Vyacheslavovich Stekolshchikov is widely known in Moscow’s artistic circles. The outstanding artist, a descendant of the famous Stekolshchikov-Finogenov-Orlov dynasty, was brought up in the creative environment of Maslovka from birth, where outstanding Soviet artists and painters were frequent guests in his parents’ house: Arkady Plastov, Georgy Nissky, Fyodor Reshetnikov… The future artist never doubted his choice of profession: painting was his calling and favorite pastime from his earliest years.
Having graduated from art school and successfully entered the Moscow State Art Institute named after V. I. Surikov in 1985. Having defended his diploma of the Surikov Institute with honors in the workshop of Professor Ilya Sergeevich Glazunov, Anton Stekolshchikov already in his diploma painting "Baptism in the Returned Temple" outlined his creative position. The revival of Russia became the main theme of the artist’s work. In turning to spiritual traditions, to cultural heritage, to patriotism, the artist finds the moral basis for the development of modern man.
Anton Stekolshchikov considers the profession of an artist a true calling. Educational institutions teach professional disciplines: painting, drawing, modeling, perspective, plastic anatomy, aesthetics, history of art and others. But only when left alone with the canvas, in the open air, or in the studio, turning to his soul, can the artist express his involvement in the fate of his native Fatherland with paints. And then his civic position will be reduced to a simple and capacious concept - to love the Motherland.
Thanks to his teaching activities at the Art Department of VGIK named after S. A. Gerasimov, the artist’s geography of creative trips was constantly expanding. The exhibition included works from plein air trips with students, creative trips organized by the Union of Artists of Russia, the Russian Academy of Arts, and the International Academy of Culture and Art.
The exhibition will feature more than 60 paintings by the master, created between 2006 and 2024, covering different regions of Russia: the Republic of Khakassia, the Kirov and Yaroslavl regions, St. Petersburg and others.
