The idea for the exhibition “In Free Flight” came from artist Olga Krotova-Sverchkova several years ago. Studying the chronicle of the Ostafevskaya estate of the Vyazemsky princes, she noticed that its history is directly related to domestic aeronautics.
At the beginning of the 19th century, one of the first hot air balloon flights in Russia ended on the territory of the estate.
Already in Soviet times, an airfield was built next to the estate, which is still in operation today. Living nearby, Olga was used to watching beautiful winged cars take off into the sky.
But the artistic concept was finally formed during the coronavirus epidemic, when more free time appeared for creativity. Thus, one after another, paintings dedicated to airplanes were born.
Simultaneously with these paintings, compositions with flying angels appeared, which protect and protect, giving strength in difficult times.
During the period of forced home quarantine, small textile collages inspired by artistic imagination also appeared.
And another hobby of the artist is “blocks of wood”. These works were made from roots, branches of trees and shrubs that the author found in the vicinity of the Ostafevsky estate. Combined with lace, beads, stones, shells and clothespins, they create whimsical images full of humor and romanticism.
