July 27 at the gallery "On Kashirka" Association "Exhibition Halls of Moscow" will open a personal exhibition of the English artist and designer Maria Chernyak-Belenky (Maria Chernyak-Belenky).

In a large-scale light installation created from Kaleidos objects, the author reveals various aspects of the influence of light and color on a person, his emotional state and behavior, affecting the philosophical and psychological experiences of the personality.

Working with new media, transit spaces and their transformation, the artist turned to light as an ephemeral substance, capable of modifying the environment, filling it with emotions and experiences, thus fixing the atmosphere of human memories.

In the project “In the labyrinths of light. Kaleidos”Maria interacts with the viewer on a mental level, immersing him in the color and light space of the labyrinth. The installation is assembled from objects called "Kaleidos" (’Kaleidos’), which are programmed and reproduce up to 44 light modes. They form the author’s statement, revealing the idea and metaphysics of the light installation. Especially for young visitors to the exposition, an interactive zone is provided in which the children can program several Kaleidos independently using the remote control.

In the global artistic context, light art is one of the promising directions of creativity and a way of interacting with the audience; it is practically not represented in Russian museums and galleries.

Maria Chernyak-Belenkaya was born in St. Petersburg in 1974. She studied at the Hebrew University, as well as at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem. Since 2005, lives and works in England.
