On the Christmas tree of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation at the Theater of the Russian Army, children are waiting for the New Year premiere of the full-scale musical "The Amazing Adventures of Masha and Viti"
Fashionable Baba Yaga, ballet on luminous gyro scooters, modern musical arrangement and video decorations that create the effect of presence… Especially for the New Year holidays, a musical fairy tale for children and adults, filmed back in 1975, will come to life on the large stage of the Theater of the Russian Army. According to the director, this performance is a good opportunity for parents to share the atmosphere of New Year’s magic from their childhood with their children.
Vitya is a hipster boy who is seriously interested in science and spending all his free time with a tablet, and Masha is a negligent girl who is passionate about fairy tales and puppet theater. They believe in miracles, and still remain children. For the new musical, author Pavel Finn rewrote the script, adding to it modern elements that are easily recognizable by today’s child. Well-known and, therefore, familiar movie sound has also changed. The songs loved by everyone were arranged by composer Oleg Vasenin, known for his major musical projects at the Moscow Art Theater and Gogol Center. “The changes affected, first of all, the compositions in the“ rock ”style, having turned into a modern beat that will produce the same effect on the audience as rock did in 1975. But we respected the music of Gennady Igorevich Gladkov with great respect and tried to preserve not only its recognition, but also the atmosphere of the fairy tale as a whole, ”says Oleg Vasenin.
Production designer Anastasia Glebova was able to create forest beauty on the stage, and a huge screen with an amazing video sequence not only perfectly complements the scenery, but also creates the full effect of presence. A team of specialists who made computer graphics annually takes part in the international festival “Circle of Light” and knows how to surprise the viewer with light effects.
The choreographer Anatoly Voinov managed to convey the dynamics and never stop the life of the big city in which Masha and Vitya live, using a modern ballet on luminous gyro scooters.
Director Sergei Smirnov says: “In the musical, we decided to bring to the surface those things that remained on paper in the script of the film and did not get into the frame. Some scenes will be able to excite the blood of a child who has already seen Harry Potter and grew up with special effects. For example, our Koschey and Cat Matvey are really scary characters. But meanwhile, the musical is filled with beauty, love and kindness. ”
The musical team managed to weave together the past and present, familiar and unusual, to create an amazing mix of classic Santa Claus and modern theater. This makes the production interesting not only for young viewers, but also for their parents, who will be able to return to childhood and already have their child through it. What is not New Year’s magic?
On December 29 and 30, 2016 the Theater will hold special screenings of the musical for the children of the Armed Forces. These days, the performance will also be watched by children of military personnel who died in the line of duty, combatants, children from large families, and pupils of cadet corps.
The Christmas tree of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation on the Theater billboard is daily from December 28 to December 31, 2016 and from January 2 to 6, 2017. In February 2017, the musical will go on without a New Year theme, and Santa Claus will transform into a wizard.
