This exhibition continues the tradition of displaying works from the Stella Art Foundation collection that had not previously been shown at its own exhibition site. In this case, the attention of the audience is presented by works of different years belonging to eight artists: Vagrich Bakhchanyan, Sergey Volkov, Dmitry Gutov, Anya Acorn, Vadim Zakharov, Igor Makarevich, Boris Orlov and Dmitry Tsvetkov.
The exhibition owes its name to the installation of Anna Acorn "Institution of Culture", which occupies one of the central places in the exposition. In accordance with this name, the exhibition space is ironically stylized as the interior of one of the cultural institutions from not so distant times. Those special places in which a completely special atmosphere was created, hardly reproduced in today’s situation. The public zone of such institutions was invariably decorated with images of prominent figures in politics, science and art, sculptural busts of military leaders, paintings of various genres, all kinds of, sometimes unexpected, visual aids and the like. The permanent residence area of local employees was filled with state-owned furniture, furniture served as stands for numerous ornamental plants, sometimes crawling onto walls, and the remaining planes of the walls quickly became the backdrop for calendars, photographs, letters and other private graphics.
Alternative Soviet and modern post-Soviet art, which made the study of communist ideology and culture its most important topic, had a special passion for simulating such artifacts, while, of course, bringing the logic of their formation to an obvious absurdity. And after art and exhibition projects dedicated to it, also
sought to look like "total installations", mimicking the characteristic "Soviet style". This was the next, purely exhibition, retrospectively-deconstructive trend of reflection. However, he had already gone down in history, in turn becoming the subject of reflection of the next generations.
Our exhibition is a kind of optional homage-sketching of this long era of Soviet deconstruction in Russian art, an attempt to neutralize formally the residual elements of its language and the half-erased traces of strategic designs.
