The gallery "Peresvetov Lane" opens a new exhibition of sculptor Alexander Povzner, which will be shown for the first time his graphic works. The exhibition continues the program on the modern drawing “Paper Only”.
The exposition presents graphics from different series and different years. Large-format enamel work, pen drawings on landscape sheets, a series of small notebook sketches - more than seventy images in all. All sketches are connected with the everyday impressions of the author. Images of birds, animals from childhood memories. Simple visual objects - a book, a bouquet, a horse, etc. Sketches of future sculptures (or not embodied for various good reasons). Povzner easily switches between artistic techniques and consciously avoids the use of one language, one style. In his work, the method of “connecting the unconnected” is often found - busts of spruce needles, felt bells, and dream mutations - birdmen, two-headed dogs, centaurs.
Alexander Povzner, artist: “Every day I sit down at the table and draw, draw, draw. Sometimes this is a stream of consciousness, sometimes the first stage of creating a sculpture. But the drawing is completely independent. Drawing for me is freedom from following the rules. That is why I love it so much - by drawing, I can do absolutely everything. I had a series about animals that behave inappropriately. For example, there was a cat that swims at a furious speed under water for fish. Or a dog that sits like a cat. And there was also a roll - two seventy per meter sixty - on which I drew a full-size sitting horse. Although it is known that horses do not sit. "
Alexander Povzner is a Russian sculptor and artist. Born in 1976 in Moscow in the family of the artist Lev Povzner and sculptor Valeria Dobrokhotova. In 1997 he graduated from the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (Faculty of Sculpture), in 1999 - MGHI im. Surikova (Faculty of Sculpture) and the Institute of Contemporary Art Problems in 2009. Solo exhibitions were held in the Gallery XL, CTI "Factory", the Voronezh Center for Contemporary Art, as well as in the framework of the international art residence LIA in Leipzig.
The “Paper Only” program is not limited to works created exclusively on this “medium”. “Paper” here is a word that traditionally gives rise to an association with painting. And the main emphasis is on the drawings of contemporary artists.
Elena Selina, program curator: “We decided not to adhere to the chronological principle, focusing on the works that are being created“ here and now. ” Indeed, the classic art in process is more honest, interesting, flexible, able to keep the viewer in suspense; and we hope that this program will give the necessary impetus to the study and understanding of Russian drawing in professional circles and will be of interest to the viewer, partly restoring the lost tradition of regular exhibitions of graphic artists that existed in Soviet times. "
The “Paper Only” program is designed for several years. The works of the "classics" of contemporary art - Nikita Alekseev, Yuri Albert, Denis Salautin, Boris Matrosov, and young artists - Sveta Shuvaeva and Ilya Dolgov have already been shown.
The program manager is Larisa Greenberg.
