The exhibition was prepared by the Museum of Moscow in collaboration with the artist Aristarch Chernyshev. It was based on video installations, plasticized objects and household rubbish, which often remains behind the scenes of a visually prosperous objective world.
Aristarch Chernyshev - an artist, a pioneer of Russian interactive art, works in the field of video and media art. In his works, he reinterprets the dependence of modern man on information flows, addresses the problem of excessive consumption.
The Toxic Assets project is an author’s view of how today consumption takes the form of a ritual, and the aesthetics of rubbish heaps and inconveniences from constant repairs are part of everyday life. In his works, the accumulated property becomes too expensive an object of storage and, in the end, turns into a suitcase without a handle, becomes the so-called “toxic asset”.
Before the victory of the scientific and technological revolution in the 1980s, things were created efficiently and with great attention, and often their life was assumed to be commensurate with the life of a person, the artist believes. In our time - globalism and cheap labor in third world countries - there is an excess of commodities. According to the artist, today’s “thing” does not have a clear origin: most often design is designed in one world, and the item is made in another. And in the future this process, in all likelihood, will become even more active.
The exhibition will be open from February 21 to March 20
The project was implemented with the participation of the Triumph Gallery.
