Silence and Unrestraint is a group exhibition in which all residents of Gallery 22 take part together with "special participants" - artists Arseniy Zhilyaev (in the Silence part) and Alec Petuk (in the Unrestrained part). The exhibition curators Elena Shmakova and Kostya Baydakov, together with the artists, focused on internal processes, interaction with the external, play and irony.
The first part of the Silence exhibition provided space and time for awareness and reflection.
The second part - "Unrestrained" - the opposite pole of reality. As conceived by the curators, the exhibition uses all the senses of the viewer.
Unrestrained is also a structured stream of artistic ideas and mediums combined in one assembly.
Despite the name, the second part turned out to be restrained and laconic, combining at its core three rooms - "artist’s workshops".
The first room is a work of a psychoanalytic nature, a little strange, reminiscent of the workshop of Bacon or Beuys. This room is literally overflowing with works, all the works presented are similar in a number of signs, they contain rather repulsive and even disgusting details - hair, adhered wax, soap, smells… all this creates an eerie atmosphere. The wild room of a strange artist who enjoys frightening things.
The second room is an unbridled mania, in which artists devote their work to people who passionately love to organize everything, keep lists. Perhaps this is the space of a conceptualist who is used to documenting everything, a kind of archive room.
The third room is a common field of unrestrained interaction, play, and performance. The place where the event itself enters the stage.
This project is both a monument to Silence and an ode to Unrestrainedness.
