The artist positions himself as an animalist, many of his works are devoted to the fragile world of wildlife. The master often works in thematic series: "Beasts on a black background", "Insects", "Fishes", "Cats", "Vine", "Lotus" combine the naturalist’s interest and symbolism, the refinement of oriental graphics. Among them are the warm, lyrical images of the greyhound Dunya and other pets playing in the graphic sheets “Dunya and Kisya”. Sometimes the images intertwine and merge, turning into bizarre ornaments in the works of the triptych "Climbing Kazbek", a series of "Case in Jerusalem."

In numerous trips around the country, foreign trips, impressions were collected for the series “Torzhok”, “Around Koktebel”, “Koktebel stones”, “Central Asia”, “Venice”, “Sailboats”, “China” and many others. Nostalgia, poetry, romantic emotion distinguish these works.

Sergei Viktorovich Tsigal was born on December 6, 1949 in Moscow. He belongs to the famous creative Tsigalei-Shaginyan dynasty, his father is a national artist, graphic artist Victor Tsigal, his mother is an artist Mirel Shaginyan. Since school years, Sergei Tsigal has been attracted to travel, at the age of 16 he went on an expedition to South Sakhalin. Another hobby of the future animal artist since childhood was biology. In 1973, Sergei Viktorovich graduated from Moscow State University. Lomonosov, Department of Biogeography, Faculty of Geography, participated in a scientific expedition across the Indian Ocean.
