December 15, 2016 at 16.00 in the halls of the Museum and Exhibition Complex of the Russian Academy of Arts - Zurab Tsereteli Art Gallery at the address: st. Prechistenka, 19 opens an exhibition of works by the Honored Artist of Russia Alexander Kondurov, "Slices of the Cultural Layer."
The exposition included about 60 paintings of different years, revealing the versatility and versatility of the artist’s creative personality.
The idea of a "picture", on which the author insists, permeates all his work. Unexpected compositional solutions, a game and philosophical foresight, an accurate metaphor and irrational attempts to go beyond are the usual tools of the author, who presented at the exhibition a kaleidoscope of his creative possibilities.
Alexander Kondurov was born in 1945 in the village of Leshukonskoye, Arkhangelsk Region. He spent his school days in Vologda, where he studied in the studio of the talented and original Vologda painter Vladimir Korbakov. In 1962 he entered the LVHPU them. V. I. Mukhina to the department of monumental and decorative painting. Since the late 1960s, he worked in the field of monumental painting, design, poster, theater, cinema, while simultaneously acting as an independent easel painter. In 1978 he became a member of the Union of Artists. He was part of the circle of nonconformist artists who absorbed the experience of world contemporary art.
Most of the works of A. Kondurov are organically combined into cycles, where plastic finds multiply reading options. The Bible, mythology, history - to reason in the space of this triad, therefore, do not set semantic boundaries for yourself, be ready to accept into the space of a picture all the antiquity and novelty of the world, trying to layer-by-layer divide the signs, marks, and letters of time.
In the cycle "Time for Change", the author creates a number of tragicomic images of the country during the perestroika period. Its population, plunged into a collective trance, ranges from repentance to the "dance of freedom", from "attempts to fly up" and move over the "red wall", to the euphoric "eating red fish."
In the Communion cycle, Condurov addresses a Christian theme. The ancient law of Orthodox iconography in its author’s plastic refraction becomes a deeply personal prayer language.
In large-scale works of the Cosmogony cycle, the monumentalist’s sophisticated toolkit becomes an analogue of primordial and demiurgic energies, the struggle of which tames chaos and structures the initial emptiness of the canvas and wall. Travels in Greece, communication with researchers of ancient culture immerse the artist in the ever-current world of mythological images.
The artist is constantly in a creative search, he is energetically mastering modernity and extracts deep layers of archaic on its surface. Like music, its images exist in time, they develop, multiply in variations. The artist’s works are distinguished by special openness, entertainment, and active interaction with the viewer.
Alexander Kondurov is a laureate of many significant contests, a diploma winner at the Russian Academy of Arts for monumental murals, and one of the active participants in the artistic life of St. Petersburg. He is the head of the international project "PARALLEL WORLDS", bringing together many famous artists and musicians.
A. Kondurov in his book “A Monologue with a Reflection” writes: “Apparently, the artist’s role is to collect from chaos and stop moments that seemed perfect to him and, starting from them, lay an uncharted path that I never knew existed before”.
The exhibition runs on January 15, 2017.
