The Creative Union of Artists of Russia will present a large-scale project dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the USSR.
November 17, 2022 at 17:00 at the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia will be the opening of a large-scale project of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia (TSHR) and the Fund for Assistance to the Development of Visual Art "Vizart" "Unbreakable UNION. To the 100th anniversary of the formation of the USSR: 1922-2022.
The project is being implemented with grant support from the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives and the support of the History of the Fatherland Foundation and is intended to be the final landmark event of the year, in a series of events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the creation of the USSR.
According to the head of the project Konstantin Khudyakov, the large-scale project of the TSHR is aimed at a cross-disciplinary analysis of the historical heritage of the USSR in the context of the creative perception of artists of the Soviet and post-Soviet era. “Its uniqueness lies in the fact that the milestones of Russian history are compared with the heritage of the creative unions of artists that arose during the Soviet period,” he notes. “Art in this context becomes a truly historical evidence, which not only visualizes historical facts, but allows us to trace their influence on the fate of subsequent generations.”
The exposition will include more than 100 artworks reflecting the history since the founding of the USSR. The exhibition space will be divided into 6 main sections, in chronological order.
The broadcast of the meanings and main events of the USSR period will be carried out through several parallel channels: through archival film and photographic documents, testimonies of contemporaries, expert assessments, as well as through works of art by artists who were living witnesses of the events themselves.
The exhibition will feature paintings from the collections of the TSHR, the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia, the Vellum Gallery, as well as works of art from private collections of collectors. The exposition will include works by iconic artists who personify time periods in art, such as Andrei Vasnetsov, Sergei Gerasimov, Konstantin Yuon, Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, Oscar Rabin, Vladimir Nemukhin, Ilya Kabakov, Anatoly Zverev and others, as well as works by living members -correspondents and academicians of the Russian Academy of Arts, as well as documents of the archival and handwritten fund from the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia (GTsMSIR), photo chronicle.
The TASS news agency will provide documentary materials from its archives for the exhibition. The exhibition will also include lectures, excursions, creative meetings with the participation of famous historians, art historians, artists, theater and cinema figures. The Oleg Tabakov Moscow Theater will hold literary readings as an example of the positive experience of joint creativity and support for the diversity of Russia’s cultural traditions.
At the opening ceremony, Irina Velikanova, General Director of the State Center for International Relations, and Vladimir Mashkov, Artistic Director of the Oleg Tabakov Moscow Theater, will sign a cooperation agreement. The opening will also be attended by Secretary of State - Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Alla Manilova, Executive Director of the History of the Fatherland Foundation Konstantin Mogilevsky, Project Manager and President of the TSHR Konstantin Khudyakov, representatives of the Federation Council and the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Office of the Government of the Russian Federation.
The exhibition will be open until December 15, 2022.
