August 3 at 16-00 in the exhibition hall of the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts (104 Lenin St.) will open the exhibition "Contemporary Russian Engraving". From the funds of the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts.
A collection of traditional Russian engravings from the depository of the Russian Cultural Foundation was donated to the museum in November 2003. This is the largest contribution to the museum’s collection over the past two decades - one hundred and fifty works performed by the best masters of contemporary Russian engraving. The collection is interesting, first of all, because the authors of the works preserve the classical traditions of this filigree art. Creating their works, they return the times to the complex, painstaking and time-consuming work of the artist, when the authenticity of what was created was more important for the creator than an early result. This is especially striking today, in the age of ultra-fast technology.
The origin of the engraving in Russia is associated with the name of Peter the Great, who at one time brought the artist Shkhonebek from Holland. His students and followers Alexei Zubov and Mikhail Makhaev contributed to the flourishing of Russian engraving. Russian masters of modern classical engraving revive the traditions of Dürer and Cranach, Zubov, Makhaev, Mitrokhin and others. Engraving is an extremely delicate, long and thorough, truly jewelry work. In the engraving, there are a great many species. The presented collection provides an opportunity to get acquainted with the works made in ancient, traditional techniques - copper engraving, cut wood engraving, etching and others. A significant part of the works is devoted to Russian history and monuments of Russian culture. And this is not accidental, since the revival of classical traditions is always associated with the revival of the memory of the masterpieces of the past.
The museum is open from 10.00 to 18.00, on Saturday from 11.00 to 19.00.
Monday is the day off. The last Friday of the month is a sanitary day.
