At the Artmuz Museum, 16-year-old photographer Sofya Kalugina will exhibit a personal project "House in which…" with comprehension and visualization of the book of the same name.
At the moment, Sofya Kalugina is 16 years old, 3 of them are engaged in photography. It should be said that he is doing quite productively: from participating in festivals to filming large-scale projects in the Manezh and SPIEF 2021. The “House in which…” series is the first solo exhibition project of Sofia, which has been working on it for a year. There is absolutely no need for age discounts, on the contrary, it gives professional and deeply felt photographs a new dimension of sincerity and unclouded author’s vision.
The series "House in which…" presents photographs inspired by the plot and characters of the book of the same name by Mariam Petrosyan, passed through the prism of the vision of Sophia herself, who effectively coped with the role of the creator of her own artistic universe. The characters (there are seven of them and each has its own, deeply worked out, mythology) appear in ordinary urban images, but the plot itself is conveyed through the emotional component of the photo.
“Home” in the context of this exhibition project is a shelter, a boarding school for children with physical or psychological disabilities. Inside the House, we see several groups of adolescents of different ages, characters and with different, but far from simple fates. They have no names, only nicknames. The exterior for them is something scary and unknown, frightening, therefore, differently traumatized children create their own rules of the game inside a small and nondescript house. This is a story not just about teenagers with physical disabilities, but about adults and conscious individuals who are looking for a place in our difficult world, who want love and recognition from society.
