The anniversary retrospective exhibition includes works from different years, from the 60s to the present. Art glass, ceramics, graphics comprise an integral picture of a bright distinctive path in contemporary art of an interesting master. The viewer will see many works for the first time.
“Glass is an amazing material, I perceive it as a spiritual space into which you can go to infinity,” the artist says. L. Savelyeva created her own world of plastic and pictorial images, always unexpected and surprising in their expressive means. The ability to improvise, an excellent sense of material are the iconic most valuable quality of the master’s talent. Her works are recognizable at first sight, whether they are works of glass, faience, fireclay or paintings and graphic works.
L, I. Savelyeva was born in 1940 in Moscow. Immediately after graduating from the Moscow Higher Art and Industrial School in 1966 (formerly Stroganovskoye), she became an active participant in art exhibitions. Her teachers were wonderful artists G. Antonova, B. Smirnov, S. Rodionova, V. Statun, who saw in it sprouts of great talent.
The first works of L. Savelyeva performed at the Dyatkovo art glass factory. In 1974-1978 she worked at the Red May glass factory, where in 1975 she performed the plastic composition Sokolniki, which became not only a reference point in the author’s work, but also determined a new artistic direction in Russian glass-making. With this landmark work, Savelyeva created a poetic metaphor for the glass space, combining hollow transparent volumes with fine motifs, using the technique of hand painting with silicate paints. Following Sokolniki, dozens of works were created (“Earth”, “Self-portrait in space”, “Pool”, “Two”), in which the author develops his version of the glass microworld.
L. Savelyeva solves many topics in stained glass. The author’s cycles “Armchairs”, “My Contemporaries”, “My Neighbors”, “Hello to the Young, Unfamiliar Tribe”, and “A. Pushkin” are widely known. Savelyeva managed to develop and continue the unique tradition of glass plastic, begun by sculptor V.I. Mukhina. One of her best works is Mourners. An interesting experiment was the creation in 1999 of a stained glass ensemble for the Tsaritsyno Museum for the exhibition “To the Glory of V. Bazhenov”. L. Savelieva was one of the first to turn to the technique of sintering and glass bending, creating a series of portraits of poets and close people - “F. Tyutchev "," A. Akhmatova "," Pushkin "," N. Gogol "," Tatyana "and others.
In the works of the 2010s, L. Savelyeva refers to the method she invented of combining glass with metal (copper). Figures carved by hand from copper plates are fused into the glass, where they live in their space (“Angel”, “People”, “Mothers”, 2013-2014).
A significant part of the exhibition is devoted to the graphic art of the master. A peculiar artistic phenomenon was the birth of the innovative genre of "poetry." Poems and the accompanying graphic drawings form an indivisible whole, thereby achieving special emotional power of influence.
The exposition gives an idea of the widest range of creative searches of a remarkable artist and acquaints the viewer with one of the brightest pages in the art of Russian author glass.
The exhibition is open to visitors from June 9 to July 5, 2015
