In 2020, the Sixth Interregional Academic Exhibition-Competition "Red Gates / Against the Stream" started on July 30 in Moscow, in the hall of the Moscow Union of Artists.

On the same day, meetings of the Expert Council and the jury, a round table dedicated to the opening of the exhibition project were held. In Moscow, the winners of the I.E.Repin and E.N.Drobitsky Prizes, established by the Russian Academy of Arts and the Creative Union of Artists of Russia, were awarded.

From 3 to 19 September this year, the traveling exhibition was displayed in Saratov at 2 sites: in the Radishchev Museum and the Estetika Art Gallery. The award ceremony of the KS Petrov-Vodkin Prize, established by the Government of the Saratov Region in cooperation with the Russian Academy of Arts, took place. The head of the project, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts K. V. Khudyakov, was awarded a high award, he was awarded the Honorary Badge of the Governor of the Saratov Region. The head of the region V. V. Radaev sent his greetings to the participants of the exhibition "Red Gate / Against the Current", which noted the importance of the project for the development of the artistic life of the country.

From September 24 to October 7 this year, the traveling exhibition "Red Gate / Against the Current" is on display in the city of Togliatti in the halls of the Museum of Contemporary Realism, the constant partner of this project. On September 24, a presentation of the exhibition and a round table took place (Museum of Contemporary Realism, 25 Yubileynaya St.).

B. Yanovskaya, laureate of the Ilya Repina, artist NI Kuznetsov, artists participating in the project, cultural and scientific workers, researchers at art museums, cultural community, media representatives.

Samara and Togliatti artists are actively involved in the exhibition project. All authors were awarded with Diplomas, their works are presented not only at the exhibition, but will also be published in the 4th volume of the art encyclopedia "Against the Current". The gratitude of the Volga branch of the Russian Academy of Arts was announced to the partners of the exhibition project in Togliatti: Director of the Museum of Actual Realism I. B. Yanovskaya, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts, sculptor A. V. Knyazev, museum researchers A. Ivanushkina and E. Zueva.

By tradition, a round table was organized in the format of the exhibition opening in Togliatti. Moderators: People’s Artist of Russia, Professor E.V. Romashko and Museum Director I. B. Yanovskaya. How is the visual arts evolving? Do artists turn to classical genres or choose the path of innovation? How do you interact with the latest art practices? The project "Red Gate / Against the Stream" is trying to answer these and other topical questions. The same issues were raised during the discussion that took place after the official opening ceremony. According to the general opinion, the exposition demonstrates the main trends and directions of movement of contemporary fine art, emphasizing its ambiguity and contradiction. In the course of the discussion, the following speakers spoke: the project curator, Professor E.V. Romashko, the rector of Togliatti State University M.M.Krishtal, the director of the Institute of Fine Arts of TSU S.N.

The discussion was attended by art historians, art critics, participants in the exhibition project, and media representatives.

On September 25, as part of the opening of the exhibition in Togliatti, an off-site event took place in the village of Shiryaevo, Samara Region, organized by S. N. Kondulukov, Director of the Institute of Fine Arts of TSU. Moscow guests were able to get acquainted with the unique Repinsky places. The historical and museum complex in the village of Shiryaevo includes the house-museum of I.E. Repin, the house-museum of the poet A. Shiryaevts (Abramov) and an exhibition hall. This entire complex is part of the Samara Regional Art Museum. As you know, the opening of the house-museum of Ilya Efimovich Repin happened not so long ago, in August 1990, which was greatly facilitated by the Shiryaevskaya social activist, the former teacher A. F. Portuguese. In 2020, in the format of the exhibition-competition, works are considered for 10 topics-objects from the "Comenius List": Mechanisms and devices, Weapons, Toys and dolls, Wheel, Means of movement, House, City, Interior, Reflections, Wings.

In accordance with the concept, works of artists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Stavropol, Krasnodar, Izhevsk, Penza, Cheboksary, Ufa, Ulyanovsk, Saratov were selected for the traveling exhibition. More than 130 Russian artists presented their work in Moscow and Saratov. The traveling exhibition in Togliatti is attended by 25 Samara and Togliatti artists - painters, graphic artists, sculptors, photo artists. As you move along the announced route, the exposition will be replenished with works of artists from Saransk, Kazan, Kirov.

After Togliatti, the traveling exhibition "Red Gate / Against the Current" will be presented in the capital of the Republic of Mordovia in Saransk.
