From the age of 8, having received the “Amateur” camera as a present, photography has become an integral part of his existence, and after a cinematic debut in 1968, S. A. Soloviev constantly lives “at a speed of 1/100 second”. In 1969, after graduating from the directing department of VGIK (workshop of M. Romm and A. Stolper), he began his creative career at the Mosfilm film studio. Since 1982, S. Solovyov has been teaching at the VGIK faculty of directing, and is also the director of directing workshops at the Higher Courses for Directors and Scriptwriters. Films, plays and scripts created by S. Soloviev became a significant contribution to Russian culture.
Sergey Solovyov is the creator of the famous cult trilogy “Assa”, “Black rose - the emblem of sadness, red rose - the emblem of love”, “House under the starry sky”.
S. Soloviev, as a rule, writes the scripts for his paintings on his own, creatively rethinking the classic literary works, among which the screen versions are based on the works of A.P. Chekhov “There is nothing to do from”, “Offer”, “Three Sisters”, based on the novel by A. M. Gorky “Egor Bulychev and others”, he wrote the script for the film I. Dykhovichny “The Black Monk”, he is also the author of unfinished projects - “Ivan Turgenev Metaphysics of Love” and “Anna Karenina” and others. Sergey Solovyov also works in the theater - he staged Chekhov’s plays “Three Sisters” (VGIK workshop), “Uncle Vanya” (Maly Theater) and “The Seagull” (Commonwealth of Actors on Taganka).
At the exhibition, which included more than 300 works, of which about 100 paintings, admirers of Solovyov’s creativity will be interested to get acquainted with the “photo-moments” of his life, his cinema colleagues, seen from unexpected angles, with sad and funny everyday scenes. School, VGIK photographs, photo tests for many films, as well as an amazing kaleidoscope of photo portraits, captured state of nature, which, interacting, form, as the author believes, "a mysterious concept of happiness." According to S. Solovyov, “filmmaking is the mysterious world of photographic images moving at a speed of 24 frames per second, where it is not at all important what is shown on these frames, and most importantly, the sensual subconscious something from which art is formed.” This is a unique vast collection of photographs made by S. Soloviev, acquaintance with which will expand the viewer’s understanding of his biography and work, and will allow us to evaluate another facet of his talent. According to the author, “photography is beautiful because people are silent. We can peer at them and imagine what these characters could tell us. And these our ideas are still much finer, smarter, more full-blooded than any of their words. Therefore silence is gold. ”
S. Solovyov’s creative activity was awarded the USSR State Prize and many international awards, including the Grand Prix of the Venice Festival for the television film “Station Watchman”, the special prizes of the jury of Venice film festivals for the films “Alien, White and Pockmarked”, “Rescuer”, prize at the Berlin Film Festival - for best directing "One Hundred Days After Childhood", a special jury prize at the IFF in San Sebastian (Italy) - for the film "Assa" and others.
