The annual science festival Science Fest will be held in St. Petersburg on August 17 and 18 at 5 venues in the city: Planetarium No. 1, Yotalab, Lumiere Hall, Russian Railways Museum and ART-Tech-Space.
Within two days, scientists and artists from Italy, France, Holland, Germany and Russia will exchange scientific knowledge and conduct vivid performances.
A rich educational and entertainment program consists of performances by more than 70 speakers, 15 art performances by contemporary media artists, 2,000 m2 of art & science installations, presentation of unmanned vehicles, dances of huge industrial robots, battles of classical and electronic orchestras, exhibition areas with various modern developments in the fields robotics, artificial intelligence, fashion-tech and industrial design, as well as a full-dome show in the largest planetarium in the world.
Among the headliners of the festival are declared: Viviana Fafone (associate professor of the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics of the University of Rome Tor Vergata), Marika Brankesi (member of the Virgo collaboration and president of the Gravitational Wave Astrophysics Commission of the International Astronomical Union), Jan Harms (associate professor at the Gran Sasso Institute of Science), Thomas Kraupe (director of the Hamburg planetarium) and Pierre Giner (artist, curator, stage designer), Alexander Krainov (head of the computer vision and artificial intelligence technologies service at Yandex) and Irina Schreiber (scientist, action current member of international collaborations CDF and CMS).
With the onset of the evening, the program will continue with a party and a performance by musicians. And on the walls of Planetarium No. 1, turned into a giant virtual dance floor, thanks to the media art performance “I DANCE”, superheroes, kawaii and other characters of modern culture will dance all night long to the rhythm of mixed music. “I DANCE” is a technology developed at the International Fashion Festival in Hyeres, which allows you to animate and choreograph the idols of modern fashion and pop culture, turning them into a dancing 3D object. For the first time this performance will be broadcast on the planetarium dome.
A separate block of the festival will be dedicated to FashionTech. This is a new format of the educational event, which is designed to create a high-quality platform for the interaction of fashion and tech industries. The best speakers and company representatives will present successful cases in order to find a new vision for the development of innovation in the field of fashion. Fashion Tech will unite creative ideas and technologies: AR / VR-technologies for the clothing market; 3D printing of shoes and clothes; artificial intelligence in the fashion industry, virtual dressing rooms and a completely new format of fashion shows.
“Every year we hold the Science Fest to develop and popularize science and contemporary art. For us, the main goal of this project is the opportunity to create a platform for the exchange of experience, knowledge and ideas in the field of science and new technologies, to inspire and surprise festival guests who can get acquainted with advanced research and development, receive unique knowledge from experts in various fields of the scientific world, get acquainted with like-minded people and it’s just interesting and useful to spend time, ”said the founder of Science Fest Evgeny Gudov.
