The Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography presents the exhibition "Malkovich, Malkovich, Malkovich: Ommage to the Masters of Photography" - a photographic collaboration between Chicago photographer Sandro Miller and actor John Malkovich. The project was successfully presented on both coasts of the United States, as well as in Europe, including one of the oldest photographic festivals Rencontres d’Arles last summer.
In 2013, having already succeeded in the field of advertising photography, Miller decided on an ambitious project - creating a series of photographs dedicated to all those authors who influenced Sandro from a professional point of view and inspired him as a photographer. For example, a portrait of Truman Capote, cornered, “brushes” by Irving Penn, Marilyn Monroe Bert Stern, a photograph of a migrant mother, taken by Dorothea Lange during the Great Depression, a self-portrait of Robert Mapplethorpe with a gun and a picture of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, which Annie Leibovitz shot for the Rolling Stones magazine; as well as legendary photographs of Diana Arbus, and The Beekeeper by Richard Avedon, among others.
Selecting 41 iconic photographs to follow, Sandro turned to Malkovich, who immediately liked this idea. Speaking of Malkovich, Sandro admits: “John is the most talented and successful person I have ever known. His genius has no equal. I can indicate a mood or idea, and, after a few moments, before my eyes, he literally turns into another person, taking on a new image. Our relationship with John and creative collaboration are so trusting. I’m incredibly lucky to have such a friend and like-minded person. ”
Sandro first met Malkovich in the late 1990s while working at the SteppenWolf Theater. Despite the fact that more than 16 years have passed, Sandro and John are still friends and are working on joint projects. The exhibition will also include works from the latest collaboration of the duo - Sessions with Malkovich. This is the result of many years of creative collaboration between two geniuses - actor and cultural icon John Malkovich and photographer Sandro Miller. At the beginning of the year, the book Sessions with Malkovich was published by Glitterati Publishing House, which tells about this merging of creative minds.
