With the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Marjani Foundation (Moscow), on September 5, 2019 at 16 o’clock in the National Art Gallery of the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan (Kazan, the Kremlin, the Khazine Museum Complex, 3rd entrance) exhibition of sculpture by Alfiz Sabirov "Ayu Ball"
The works of the sculptor, laureate of the Baki Urmanche Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan Prize presented at the exhibition are nothing more than a journey of a hero living in each of us into the enchanting world of mythology based on the traditions of the Tatar people. The exhibition’s slogan is “From ancestors to descendants”.
During this journey, the viewer will be able to observe the images of chthonic giants, mythical animals, heroes and gods that can help people understand the paradoxes of being: the relationship between love and hate, chaos and space, life and death, ancient and new.
Conflicts and reincarnations find themselves at the junction of times connecting generations. The sculptures themselves are in transitional forms, as if transforming in front of people’s eyes. Penetrating into our world, they force visitors in the art space of the museum to become heroes of their own unwritten adventures. No wonder the idea of the exhibition is a narration about the inner spirit of the hero, about his connection with his ancestors, about strength and its transmission from generation to generation. This exhibition is about us.
The master, working with small sculptural forms and combining materials of various kinds, achieves a cyclopic expression of meanings. It is in an unusually accurate, filigree game of texture, color and volume that the main idea of images is expressed. Alfiz Sabirov once again proves that he is always different at the Ayu Ball exhibition, so his proud warriors, intertwined with bizarre images cast in bronze, stand next to soft, streamlined forms of plaster, thereby reflecting the richness of the universe and the uncompromising truth of life.
Such unique and original creators as Alfiz, a master of transition states, a myth-creator, inspired by his own culture, are embroidered with a giant stitch on the fabric of history only once every half a century. Our immediate task is not to miss the chance to imbue his work, having absorbed cultural dishes from bronze, where they acquire new, still unknown forms and incarnations.
The curator of the exhibition: Dina Akhmetova, art critic, chief researcher and adviser to the director of the Pushkin Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan on national art.
The exhibition runs until October 2, 2019.
